Unwanted chest/breast veins are a common problem for women. Breast veins can be caused by several factors, including pregnancy, breast augmentation surgery, or chronic sun exposure. Blue-green reticular veins may become more pronounced following changes in the breast tissues, as seen after pregnancy and breast augmentation. Small red spider veins are often a result of chronic sun exposure. These red spider veins are frequently seen on the neck and chest too.
Unsightly chest and breast veins can be socially embarrassing to women. Thankfully there are treatments available to help you look and feel your best.
Treatment is safe and effective
Sclerotherapy is the treatment of choice for blue-green reticular veins on the breast. Sclerotherapy uses a technique to inject medication directly into the unwanted veins causing them to collapse and dissolve over time. This procedure has been used for several decades to get rid of unsightly and unwanted veins quickly and safely.
Cutera® Excel V™ is a dermal laser treatment used for small pink and red veins on the chest. The unwanted vein absorbs the laser energy, causing it to shrink and collapse. Newer laser technology makes treatment comfortable and faster while producing better results. Both treatments are safe, effective, and have been used for years by vein specialists to treat chest veins.
What to expect
You will meet with a qualified vein specialist to discuss your concerns and determine which treatment option is best for your needs. If needed, topical numbing medication can be used before treatment if sclerotherapy is being used. Immediately after treatment most women return to their normal daily activities. More than one session may be needed depending on your concerns. Results are typically seen within a couple weeks as the body absorbs the veins. For the next week after treatment:
- Expect some mild bruising
- Wear a well supporting bra
- Avoid strenuous exercise
- Avoid hot tubs/saunas – warms showers are fine
