Cutera® Excel V™
How does treatment work?
The Cutera® Excel V™ laser is an energy in the form of light, both visible (532nm) and infrared or invisible (1064nm). A “target” either the hemoglobin in the veins or melanin in the pigment absorbs the laser energy. This absorption of energy heats up and destroys that targeted tissue in a controlled fashion. The Excel V™ simultaneously provides direct cooling to the skin during treatment. This cooling makes treatment more comfortable and also helps protect the surrounding tissues.
Once that targeted tissue has been treated your body will gradually dissolve and get rid of it. This process can take days to weeks depending on your specific circumstances.
A thorough evaluation is performed at your initial visit. We will examine your skin and review your pertinent medical history. Please bring a list of the medications and topical products you are currently using. This initial appointment helps us to understand your concerns and desired goals. With this knowledge we can determine if you are a good candidate for treatment with Excel V™.
Laser treatments are considered cosmetic services and are therefore not covered by insurance. We provide up front pricing at your consultation so you are never hit with a surprise bill at checkout.
What does treatment feel like?
The Excel V™ provides a continuous contact cooling to keep the skin comfortable during the treatment. When the laser energy is delivered most people describe the feeling like a warm pinprick or rubber band snap that lasts very briefly. The Excel V™’s built-in cooling system provides some of the most comfortable treatment on the market without compromising results.
What to expect after treatment?
Immediately after each treatment you can expect some amount of temporary redness and swelling. The area and type of condition being treated will depend on the amount of social downtime you can expect. Social downtime is highly variable between patients. We ask that you stay cool after treatment and avoid exercising for a couple days after treatment to get the best results possible.
A common question is “Will a single treatment fix my concern?” Unfortunately, there’s no good answer to that. Most patients will need more than a single treatment to adequately address their concerns. We do our very best to provide an estimated number of treatment sessions for all our services, but it is important to remember that every person responds differently to treatment. The area, severity of your concern, and your tolerance for downtime all play into the number of treatments needed.
